The Women’s Refugee Commission works to protect and improve the lives of women, children, and youth displaced by conflict and crisis. It advocates globally with governments, humanitarian agencies, and donors to ensure that displaced women have access to essential services, safety, and opportunities to rebuild their lives.
WRC blends research, documentation, and practical guidance to shape how humanitarian aid is delivered. In addition to its extensive library of reports and field tools on issues including reproductive health, gender-based violence, economic empowerment, and inclusion of marginalized groups, it also supports on-the-ground programs, including a Village Health Worker initiative in Borno State, Nigeria, where 219 community health workers were trained to visit displaced families and promote access to basic health services.
WRC also shines a light on urgent crises and systemic abuses. In 2025, it launched a nationwide Detention Pregnancy Tracker to document conditions for pregnant, postpartum, and nursing women held in U.S. immigration detention. And during the conflict in Gaza, it has highlighted the gendered impacts of food shortages and humanitarian collapse, calling for urgent aid and protections for women and girls. Through this mix of research, advocacy, and humanitarian support, WRC helps ensure displaced families are recognized, supported, and treated with dignity.
